Dave Clark, Executive Director, Woodlands Development & Lending (WV)

In North Central West Virginia, Woodlands Development & Lending is in the business of building healthy, viable communities.

“Housing, I think, is a critical component of any thriving successful community,” says Dave Clark, Executive Director of the nonprofit community development corporation. “I don’t think anybody can really engage in their community without being adequately housed.”

Through its development branch, Woodlands works to create affordable housing, support downtown redevelopment and improve community infrastructure—like parks, trails, and community centers—to make places where people can afford to live and stay. And its lending branch helps to fuel the dreams of local entrepreneurs and support reinvestment and economic development by providing access to capital and technical assistance to businesses and nonprofits in West Virginia’s Barbour, Randolph and Tucker counties.

“There’s nothing more crucial right now,” Clark says. “We can’t proceed any further, at least in our region, if we don’t address the housing issue.”
