Bryan Phipps, President & CEO, People Incorporated (VA)

For more than 60 years, People Incorporated of Virginia has created ways for people to improve their lives, making access to affordable housing a core pillar of its work.

“Homeownership and having safe, decent, affordable housing is a necessity to helping people move forward,” says President and CEO Bryan Phipps.

Today, the community-action agency—which started in Southwestern Virginia—works across Virginia offering approximately 30 services to help people access the resources they need to regain stability and move forward. The agency’s housing services cover everything from providing rental assistance to helping people access first-time homebuyer loans to developing affordable housing. It’s helped to build around 1,100 multifamily housing units.

“Viewing the availability of housing as an economic development tool is something that we believe very strongly in,” Phipps says. “We’re, obviously, here for the long haul.”
