Lindy Turner, Executive Director, Clinch-Powell RC&D (TN)

Clinch-Powell RC&D, under the leadership of Executive Director Lindy Turner, is addressing the housing crisis in Tennessee’s Appalachian counties by offering a comprehensive range of services, including homebuyer counseling, rental assistance, and affordable housing development. Turner is familiar with the challenges faced by first-time homebuyers. She explains that options are often limited to “old housing stock that needs lots of repairs, or mobile homes.” The COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated these issues, leading to increased property demand and soaring rents, with some clients experiencing rent hikes from $600 to $1,250. In response, Clinch-Powell has intensified its advocacy efforts, collaborating with partners like Fahe to educate decision-makers and secure funding.

“Housing is a critical tool for community development,” states Turner.

Through partnerships and a focus on stable housing, Clinch-Powell aims to build wealth and stability for families, as evidenced by a recent subdivision where homeowners saw equity increases of $120,000 over three years while maintaining affordable payments.
